Professional Career Counseling

I have been friends with Joanne for 20 years and worked with her in Girl Scouts and the PTA. She has always shown the upmost professionalism in all these capacities, but none more than when I needed career counseling. My sales earnings were declining due to a slump in the auto and steel manufacturing industries. Joanne offered to help me find a new career that would fill my financial and creative needs. After the first meeting, she was able to guide me toward a new green energy career with the needed grant money to pay for training. Since I was taught the skills for seeking opportunities by Joanne, I have been able to continue my education, earning many building management certificates and a class one stationary engineering license which I am using to expand my opportunities.

Reflecting on the guest speaker's presentation, it's clear that crafting a resume and cover letter is an art that demands both precision and personal touch. There were many takeaways from Ms. Joanne Warren's presentation that I implemented into my own documents. For instance, how to organize the resume and specifically which headings to include. Such as a profile summary, education, clinical experience, work experience, skills, volunteer services, achievements, and certifications. I’m a visual learner, so I appreciated how she displayed different templates and examples of previous students’ cover letters and resumes. It gave me an idea of what I want to include and how to tailor it so it’s very RT-specific. For the cover letter, she went in depth about the format and what to include in each paragraph. I also didn’t know including a reference page is preferred/mandated by some interviewers, so I made sure to note that down. Lastly, I loved how she gave us advice in answering some very commonly asked interview questions, it was very beneficial.
